HUMANZOO returns to the Hamilton Fringe Festival, hot off the tail of last years Critics Choice Award winning
production Normal, this time with 911, a hilarious and sinister new play written by Jakob Ehman.
911 tells the story of two best buds who get in over their heads trying to investigate and solve a mystery after their car is hit by a cell phone that was thrown off a balcony of their 125 Wellington apartment building. The miraculously intact phone has no information on it except for the cold fact that the last number dialled was 911.
911 is an exploration into what it means to ask questions, to try and know the unknown, to search for meaning amidst chaos and in the end, the devastating ripple effect that an answer can have on the world around us.
HUMANZOO’s mandate could be described as an anti-mandate– a mandate to evolve along with the world it inhabits, to never limit what type of art we want to create. What always remains the same is our insatiable curiosity to investigate the human brain and the meaning of life.
At the helm of HUMANZOO is multidisciplinary artist Jakob Ehman, Director and Sound Designer of 2013’s Normal and now two-time 2014 Dora nominated Actor, he returns as the Director/Sound Designer and debuts his first original work as a Playwright. The stars of Normal, Justin Goodhand and Edward Charette return in the cast of 911, along side well known Toronto Theatre Actors/Creators, Claire Burns, Brandon Crone and G. Kyle Shields.
911 is a modern take on the classic murder mystery genre, a whodunit or rather…whodunwhat? The investigation oscillates between a blissful silliness, and the devastating and bleak reality of crime.
It plays at the Theatre Aquarius Studio Theatre from July 17th-27th.
